Life is a funny thing. And then death happens.
I have recently experienced a loss of a family member and the extent that it hit me was surprising. Until you have actually experienced the loss of a loved one, death is but a mystery or dare I say myth. I have never been one to be conscious of our time on this blue and green ball. Don’t get me wrong I’m not living in a dream world, I understand the timeline we go through, but my timeline has very loose deadlines, as do a lot of people.
And this my friends is what I am here to address.
I’m not here to tell you to live today like it’s your last because let’s be honest you would be broke, out on the streets and probably hated by a lot of people tomorrow if that was your philosophy, I mean unless that’s your thing then please be my guest.
My point is to tell you to be slightly more aware that those ambitions, needs and wants you to have (be it travel or anything else). They should be a priority in your life in my humble opinion. Read on to see my reasoning.
We all have it, in equal amounts, then why does it feel like its never enough. Yet we ALWAYS push back our dreams and say I have time for that. Time is just an illusion (yes I know there is a more scientific explanation, but allow me some creative forgiveness, I’m trying to make a point here).
You know that feeling when you get when you actually realise your age and then ask yourself how did time go by so quickly? That my friend seems to be how life works. So ask yourself do you want to be that person when you’re too old to fart without having an accident thinking about how miserable your life has been. Or will you be that old person who can’t fart without having an accident (let’s face it its bound to happen no matter what) but not care because you conquered your life goals.
Ok but seriously, I have had enough friends and family members go through severe illnesses and luckily come out the other side healthier and happier. This is because they took that scare and used it to turn their life around and to concentrate on what truly matters to them. But why do we have to have something terrible happen to us or those around us to catch a wake-up call and actually start living your passions?
Tell me, what’s stopping you from living your dream?
Is it money?
Is it fear?
Is it being too comfortable?
Is it not actually knowing what you want?
No matter what it is, that’s just an EXCUSE. Whether you believe we were put on this earth of a reason or not, wouldn’t you at least want to feel happy about what you are doing?
There is no time like the present so don’t waste it. Don’t wait for when you have more time. Because honestly, that is never going to happen.
As soon as you become an adult it seems your body starts giving up. I have constant back pain, a dodgy knee, a stomach who acts like a moody teenager and right shoulder pain straight from hell and I’m only 26. If you’re an average person you’re likely to always have some kind of ache to complain about, it keeps us going. However, I’m lucky that all my aches and pains are minor. For someone who doesn’t exercise I’m actually pretty healthy.
But your health is not always guaranteed, who knows what will happen tomorrow. So tell me this
Why are you living solely for tomorrow?
Please whatever you do, don’t dismiss that question. For most tomorrow is what we look forward to and what we prepare for. Which as a responsible adult you should do. Save for that rainy day, make sure you have a pension, build that little nest. That is not what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about that fact that you are taking you for granted.
Travel small or travel big. Do whatever suits you. I’m not saying travel is for everyone. But I will make the assumption that travel interests you as you did find your way to my little travel blog. The reason most of us do travel is not for Instagram or to make others jealous, it’s fulfilling.
Getting to experience those new places, cultures, food or whatever is exciting (mostly) and is actually good for your mental health. Travel is healthy, maybe not always for your bank account though. It broadens your mind, helps you appreciate the comforts you do have and can inspire you to do better. I mean who doesn’t want to be a better person right?
What I’m trying to preach here, is no matter what you want to do stop putting it off.
Now is the best time to follow your dreams. You don’t have to do something drastic, just start on the path and eventually you will start to pave your own path. Don’t wait till it’s too late.
Stop relying on things that are not guaranteed.
